Let me tell you about someone I mentored last year.

Let’s call her Nina.

Nina was smart, articulate, and deeply respected.

She had the kind of brain that saw three steps ahead.

She knew the product inside and out.

Her ideas were thoughtful, well-framed, and quietly influential.

But when her company reorganized, she was left off the strategy team.

She didn’t get cut.

She just didn’t get called in.
